Jonty Fisher

Jonty was born in Salisbury, England, into a musical family. He moved to Ghana at the age of 5 where he was immersed in the rich Ghanaian culture. His father is a pianist and his mother, a graduate of Royal College of Music, sang with Ghanaian folk hero Koo Nimo and was also involved in many Operatic productions.

After School, wishing to formalize his music education, Jonty went to The West London Institute of Higher Education in order to complete a music foundation and music performance course at Trent Park in north London where he was taught by Dudley Phillips and Lucy Hare and gained a first class BA Honours degree. Among resident and visiting staff were Stuart Hall, Nikki Iles, Chris Batchelor, Martin Speak, Julian Seigel, Thad Kelly, Huw Warren, Gene Calderazzo, Martin France, Jeff Clyne and Phil Robson. He attended master classes with, among others, Dave Holland, John Taylor and Stan Saltzman. Jonty also studied composition, harmony and musical form with the great pianist and composer Ronald Francis Littlefield.

Jonty began his career in 1988, performing at the Queen Elizabeth Hall as a finalist in the Barclays Youth Music Awards and has been a regular on the London music scene ever since. This time has been punctuated by extensive World touring, playing at many of the UK's premier events and venues and regular film, radio and television appearances. He has worked with many different artists including, Jacqui Dankworth, Steve Sitwell (Robbie Williams), Alan Barns, Todd Gordon, Jim Watson (BBC big band, The Brand New Heavies), Mark Lockheart (Radiohead), Stan Saltzman, Don Rendell, Christian Garrick (Dolly Parton) and is a long standing member of The Kate Dimbleby Trio ("so tight they’re vacuum packed" - Time Out).

Jonty is a member of the critically acclaimed world music band "Deva" ("Deva's mellifluous notes will soothe, excite and inspire..."BBC Asian Life), The Hatfield Philharmonic orchestra, The Big Buzzard Boogie Band and The Ashes Quartet. He is also a cofounder and composer for the Swedish guitar trio "Ben and Jerry's Phisherfood" and a bandleader for Swan Hellenic Cruises. He has composed music for the BBC’s ‘Real Lives’ series and has also written material for a BBC documentary, screened in Autumn 2005. He is currently composing music for a third 'Deva' album and music for his own Quartet.

Film soundtracks include The Real Bridget Jones (Film 4), Girl on a Cycle (Chocolate Films) and Vagabond Shoes (Ugly Duckling Films).
