SINGER-PIANISTS
JOE JACKSON
My introduction to professional gigging came courtesy of Paul Booth. The highly regarded saxophonist regularly invited me to sing at his 'Harbour Jazz Club' where I met and often sang with major artists including Sax Appeal, Anita Wardell and John Etheridge. Upon moving to the North-East of England to study Music at the University of Durham I convinced the acclaimed performer Sandi Russell to make me her first pupil. I gave the first jazz vocals recital in the long history of the University. I was given the highest grade of all the performers on the course and was awarded a scholarship prize for the concert. I have performed my original material and cover arrangements in gigs varying from audiences of three hundred in Durham Castle's Great Hall to small private functions for Members of the European Parliament. I've recently played for Candid Records at the revered 606 Jazz Club in Chelsea. Still just twenty-two years old, my residencies have included various jazz clubs, hotels and even the Consulate General of Lille, France.
