ED BENTLEY
Ghanaian born Ed Bentley arrived in Britain in 1971. He swiftly won the respect of musicians across Britain and the rest of Europe and has been gigging and recording ever since. Best known for his Blue Note Quartet (Blue Note Grooves) he has played many venues in the UK including Ronnie Scotts, 100 Club, Jazz Cafe, Pizza Express, The Jazz Factory and the Royal Festival Hall to mention just a few. Tours abroad with his various ensemble have included the Fabric and the Old Uncle Po in Hamburg, The Quarter Latin and Eierschalle in Berlin, the Patio in Paris, and the Bim Huis in Amsterdam to mention just a few. Noted principally for his work on the piano and organ, Ed Bentley also plays acoustic bass and guitar. His best known commercial release was perhaps "Never Again" on Pleasure Records which graced the UK charts for 18 weeks in 1985. Featuring from Philadephia USA, George Willliams (Tymes). He has also worked with Deniece Williams, Percy Sledge, Irene Reed, Al Casey, Bobby Watson and Michael Hashim to mention a few in the USA. In the UK his various ensembles have included musicians like Jim Mullen, Dale Barlow, John Toussant, and many more top British artistes. "Bolla, Keyboard Blues", Ed Bentley's 1990 album on Prestige Records was met with widespread acclaim featuring such classic tracks like a swing version of "This Masquerade", "Keyboard Blues", "Asylum Down Blues", "Bolla" and "Coming Home Baby". His subsequent CD's enjoyed the same sort of welcome including his latest "Metropolis" recorded in Los Angeles, New York and Mixed in London.
