DAVID SCHOFIELD
With his Carnegie Hall Debut performance at the early age of 19, David Schofield is a name we've surely not heard the last of [Oxford Times 2002.] Known for his fresh and colourful interpretations of the piano repertoire, David maintains a busy performance schedule internationally. He is currently studying with renowned teacher, Simon Bottomley. David began playing the piano in his hometown of Manchester at the age of 5. In 2006, David finished his 9th year at Chetham's School of Music. In his final year he was awarded the keyboard prize. David has had many successes as a pianist: Aged 12 he was introduced to the International scene. He travelled to Kiev, Ukraine to participate in the 4th International piano competition in memory of Vladimir Horowitz. There he was awarded a special prize for the student who showed outstanding promise. Since then he has won numerous prizes in competitions across the U.K, Europe, the U.S.A and Canada. At an early age David was the overall winner of the European Piano Teachers Association competition. In 2005 David won the Manchester regional final of the BBC young musician of the year competition and later that year played at the Sage Centre, Gateshead. In 2006 David won the Junior Chopin Prize in memory of Ryszard Bakst. Early in 2007, David travelled to Canada to take part in the finals of the MTNA piano competition. He was awarded 3rd prize after 5 months of competing against players from the USA and Canada. Also in 2007, he won 1st prize in the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano competition and also came first, along with getting the audience prize, in the 1st Hershey Felder Piano competition. Early 2008 saw him win 1st prize in the CCPA concerto competition and in December became a finalist in the "Les Rencontres Internationales des jeunes Pianistes". David has performed across the U.K. including the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester where he showed his versatility in 'Sparky's Magic Piano'. This was part of the Piano Festival 2003, which was organized by British Pianist Katherine Scott. His performance was later performed in Lancaster alongside players from the Chethams Symphony Orchestra and the Halle . Both performances were conducted by Stephen Threlfall. David has been involved in charity performances including, raising money for a bursary at the Royal Northern College of Music and raising money for BBC Children in Need where his performance was broadcast on BBC radio.
