Claire Overbury

Introduction:

Claire Overbury is an up and coming soloist and orchestral player in London, performing a wide variety of orchestral works under conductors such as Peter Stark, Paul Daniel and Ian Brown. She has to date played for the City of London Sinfonia and is principal flute for Oxford Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of the City, and has also played for the Amadeus Orchestra, and the Corinthian Chamber Orchestra.

About Claire...

Claire Overbury is an up and coming soloist and orchestral player in London, performing a wide variety of orchestral works under conductors such as Peter Stark, Paul Daniel and Ian Brown. She has to date played for the City of London Sinfonia and is principal flute for Oxford Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of the City, and has also played for the Amadeus Orchestra, and the Corinthian Chamber Orchestra. She works regularly for English National Ballet in their workshops in schools and performs solo recitals in various venues in the UK. In addition to her performance commitments, she teaches flute at Haberdashers' Aske's School for Girls in London.

She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance, with Distinction, from Trinity College of Music, London, where she also received the Worshipful Company of Musicians' Silver Medal Award for 2004. Prior to this Claire gained an upper second class honours degree in Music from Christ Church, Oxford University, where she held an instrumental exhibition for three years.

During 2005, Claire was awarded the second prize in the Anglo-Czechoslovak competition and also gained a place on the Making Music 'Arthur and Gwyneth Harrison Professional Development Programme'. In 2006 she won the Lions District Flute Competition and was a finalist in the Eastbourne Young Soloist Competition. Recently, she has been offered a position with Southbank Sinfonia commencing in January 2008.

Claire currently studies with the Internationally renowned soloist Wissam Boustany and the orchestral player Karen Jones. She has also studied with Kate Hill, Anna Noakes, Clare Southworth, Ian Clarke and in masterclasses with William Bennett and Susan Milan.
