Uthingo is a Zulu word for 'Rainbow' and in Zulu tradition the Princess of the Rainbow oversees and blesses the planting and fruition of all kinds of seeds.

This dance company was founded in 1983 with the aim of sowing the seeds of South African culture around the world.

In performance, Uthingo dance traditional South African and Zulu dances with accompaniment from drummers. The group also incorporates Zulu songs and chants.

Uthingo can perform with a minimum of two dancers and two drummers upwards, depending on the situation and duration required.
