The River Nile Band

Waeil Abo Bakr has been playing the violin for over 50 years. He attended the Conservatoire in Egypt from 1959 to 1968. He became the first Egyptian musician to be presented with a platinum award for selling over 12 million copies of the No Quater album which featured his solo. This is while he worked with Led Zeppelin and toured the world for a year with them as part of their re union in 1995 - he played his solo in 128 gigs in over 68 countries.

He is solo violinist and leader of The River Nile Band which features in most Arab weddings and events organised in London, Europe and the Middle East. The band ranges from 2 to 20 musicians depending on the events needs and includes stars of singers and dancers locally and from the Arab region

He has received letters of recognition from Cambridge and Oxford among many others amd Waeil has performed at both the Cambridge and British Museum. He has also been the main feature in cross cultural music festivals showing in Kew Gardens, Hyde Park and others.

Waeil came to London in 1978 playing with Arab singers, including Kazem El Saher, Sa'doon Jaber, Karim Mahmoud, Talal Madah, Mohammed Abdo, Sabah, Shadia, Fayza Ahmed, Abd ElMotilib, Sharifa Fadel, Fahd Balan and many of the modern arab singers including Mariam Fares, Ragheb Alama, Ehab Tawfik, Nagwa Karam, Waleek Tawfek. He was part of El Firka El Masiya in Egypt before he came to London – the most prestigious Egyptian band to date.
Waeil has also recorded movie sound tracks for historical films including the well known Mary of Nazareth as well as recording with western artists such as Peter Gabriel, Lorena McKnitt and Natasha Atlas.
